Welcome back to the Workbench!
Is the internal skeleton of your High Grade kits finally getting the upgrade it deserves? This week, we’re diving deep into the buzz surrounding the new “Frame 2.0” design spotted in the latest Iron-Blooded Orphans releases. It’s a shift that could redefine the standards for affordable gunpla.
But that’s not all. We’re also looking at a controversially expensive piece of Universal Century history, a gritty new direction for Transformers, and some surprising cancellations in the Super Robot world.
The Briefing: Your Intel at a Glance
Big Reveal: The HG Gundam Barbatos Adapt is officially announced, featuring the new stability-focused “Gundam Frame 2.0” first seen in the Zagan.
High-End Shock: Bandai unveils the Metal Robot Spirits Xavier’s Gyan, priced at a staggering ¥28,600 (approx. 180€), featuring a massive 230mm “Hakuji” expansion system.
SD Evolution: The MGSD Kshatriya brings Master Grade engineering to the Super Deformed scale, combining cuteness with serious mechanical detail.
Market Watch: A new Transformers OVERGEAR line is revealed, targeting fans who want gritty realism over traditional G1 blockiness.

The Dropzone: New Model Announcements
HG Gundam Barbatos Adapt (P-Bandai)

Key Details:
Release Window: TBA (P-Bandai)
Scale/Grade: 1/144 High Grade
Notable Features: Utilizes the tweaked “Gundam Frame 2.0” for improved stability and poseability; based on the new form seen in the IBO theatrical feature.
Initial Impressions: Iron-Blooded Orphans fans have long loved the aggressive design of the Barbatos, but often struggled with the stability of the original HG frame. This “Adapt” version—carrying over the engineering tweaks from the HG Zagan—signals that Bandai is listening to feedback. If this frame becomes the new standard, we can expect a much sturdier shelf presence for future IBO releases.
MGSD Kshatriya

Key Details:
Release Window: TBA
Price: ~82.95€
Scale/Grade: 1/144 Master Grade SD
Notable Features: Four large binders with layered detailing, advanced part separation for color accuracy, MG-level internal structure in an SD body.
Initial Impressions: The MGSD line continues to impress by taking the “chibi” aesthetic seriously. The Kshatriya is a complex suit even at 1/100 scale, so shrinking it to SD while retaining Master Grade engineering is no small feat. This looks to be a fun, dense build that offers high detail without the footprint of a Full Mechanics kit.
HGAW Gundam Leopard

Key Details:
Release Window: TBA
Price: ~26.95 €
Scale/Grade: 1/144 High Grade (After War)
Notable Features: Modern HG articulation applied to the 90s heavy-hitter; opening/closing missile hatches and gatling gimmicks.
Initial Impressions: After War Gundam X is finally getting some love. The Leopard is a fan-favorite “heavy” unit, and seeing it return with modern engineering—specifically the articulation needed to hold up those massive arms—is a win for retro fans.
The Vault: High-End Collectibles
Spotlight: Metal Robot Spirits Xavier’s Gyan [HAKUJI PACKS]

©SOTSU・SUNRISE
Manufacturer: Bandai Tamashii Nations
Price: ¥28,600 (approx. €180)
Release Date: July 2026
The Verdict: This is a polarizing release. On one hand, the attention to detail is spectacular. The “Hakuji” system—a massive tactical expansion unit that stretches to 230mm, towering over the Gyan itself—is incredibly impressive. It recreates a specific, deep-cut moment from the UC 0085 timeline (intercepting the Psycho Gundam).
On the other hand, nearly 200€ for a non-scale figure is a steep ask, even for dedicated UC enthusiasts. This is clearly a luxury item for the die-hard collector who values obscure lore variants over mainstream heroes like the RX-78-2.

Patlabor EZY Anime Cast Revealed
The upcoming Patlabor EZY series has solidified its cast, and it’s packed with talent. Joining the lineup are Ami Koshimizu, Chikahiro Kobayashi, Setsuji Satō, Yume Matsumura, and Megumi Hayashibara.
Relevance for Builders: With new anime comes new interest in the kits. The Ingram and other Labors are classic designs that look fantastic in modern camo finishes. If this series reignites passion for the franchise, we might see a reissue of older kits or—dare we dream—a modern MG of the AV-98 Ingram.
Editor’s Pick: Transformers OVERGEAR
While this isn’t Gunpla, it’s significant for mecha fans. Takara Tomy’s new Transformers OVERGEAR line is explicitly targeting the gap between high-end realistic mecha figures and traditional Transformers toys.
If you’ve ever found standard Transformers too toy-like or Third Party figures too expensive/complex, this line aims to be the sweet spot: gritty, military-inspired aesthetics with the transformation gimmick intact. It’s a bold move that acknowledges the mature tastes of the modern collector.
Reader’s Corner
Question of the Week: At 180€, is the Metal Robot Spirits Xavier’s Gyan a must-have centerpiece, or is Bandai pushing the limits of what collectors are willing to pay for niche characters?
Let me know your thoughts! Do you chase the obscure lore, or save your budget for the main cast?
Upcoming Events & Dates

This week is defined by extremes: from the engineering refinement of the “Frame 2.0” in the HG Barbatos to the extravagant excess of the 180€ Xavier’s Gyan. Whether you are a practical builder looking for better stability or a deep-lore collector with a big budget, there is something on the horizon for you.
Thank you for reading, and happy building!
